This this the first experience working with Blogs and I am finding the whole thing very interesting. Confusing actually. I know after playing around with this enough, I will figure out what I am doing. As I am reading about Blogs in the book Blogs, Wikis, Podcasts, and Other Powerful Web Tools for Classrooms (Richardson, 2009) I am finding how wonderful of a tool blogs are for the classroom. That is of course when I understand how all the postings, replies, etc. work. What a great way for students to communicate with teachers, parents, and other students. I am interested in ways that elementary teacher's have used blogs, and if they are finding it successful.

Which of the activities described in the readings did you find most valuable or 'worth it' for your classroom practice?
ReplyDeleteI'd be interested to find elementary teachers that have used blogging successfully and have used it for more than just responding to questions...
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of using it for writing. Whether it be posting prompts and have ongoing writing among students, or display student writing. Many students are afraid to share their writing with others, but what a positive way to have others read writing products. It would also be great to post published student stories and poems.
ReplyDeleteYou could probaly use blogging as a classroom story book, where students relate to being in elementary school. However I do see why it would be better in middle school or higher.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if it would be positive or not, but I wonder if a blog could be used to comment on assignments given in class? Or maybe even a feedback site for students and parents.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of using it for a classroom storybook a lot. I just think it would be one more thing to manage if it was ongoing. I'm not sure how it would work in keeping track of everyone getting on. Then, of course, there is the issue of students who do not have access to computers at home.
ReplyDeleteThat is true, if students don't have access to computers or internet at home it limits their access to school and in elementary thats probaly kind of hard. You could have story time, if you have access to COWS at your school.
